Stress Relief with Exercise

  • December 26, 2017

Everyone has a different way to cope with stress. Some read, others cook or clean, some may eat and my personal favorite exercising…running to be more specific. Whatever the mode of stress relief, this is generally important for health.

As stress levels rise, so do levels of different chemicals and hormones in your body. These are not always the good kind. Prolonged stress has been known to cause numerous health concerns such as high blood pressure, muscle aches/pains, and heart attacks to name a few. By seeking a “release” (via some activity), the body can restore its balance and remain healthy.

So why did I stress exercise as the “release” in the title?

Well…

Because not only is exercise known to reduce stress levels, BUT exercise is directly linked to countless health benefits. Need I list the benefits of exercise?

  1. Lower Blood Pressure
  2. Lose Weight
  3. Enhance Energy
  4. This list is endless…

So the next question is…what is stopping you from exercising as a stress release?

  1. Is it time?
  2. Motivation?
  3. Thinking you need to go to a gym?
  4. Other?

Did you know only 30 min of activity is necessary? In a 24 hr period are saying you can’t find just 30 min to do something good for your health? Of course you can, so time can’t be the limiting factor.

Thinking you must go to a gym? There are plenty of activities you can do from the comfort of your own home. If could be as simple as just going for a walk from your home or office. Truthfully, little equipment is necessary.

Motivation?…probably the #1 reason people have for not exercising. What is more important than your health??? The answer should be NOTHING. If you are not well, how can you take care of family or even enjoy life? For those who may be struggling, try focusing your motivation on better health. Enlist a friend or family member to be a workout partner. Together you both can reduce stress and achieve better health. What could be better???

So back to the beginning…Exercise = Stress Relief…

Get moving to better health and less stress.
