4 Ways to Prevent Back Pain from coming BACK

  • February 20, 2023

As you may have read earlier this month, 80% of people will experience back pain at some point during their life. Plus 90% of those who had back pain are likely to experience a 2nd episode. So with that in mind, wouldn’t you like to know the 4 ways to prevent back pain from coming back?

I would hazard a guess that you would like to prevent another episode if at all possible. Because I am guessing you did not enjoy that 1st episode.

So what follows will some of the best ways to prevent that recurrence of back pain.

  1. Avoid sitting for hours on end. Yes, you may have a job that requires you to sit at a computer, but it will then be important to take at least mini breaks to get up and move. Then when you are not at work, it will be important that you engage in upright activities vs going home to sit some more.
  2. Regularly engage in some form of physical exercise. This is important for all the muscles and joints of your body, the spine included. Working to keep the muscles strong and toned as well as promoting at least near full range of motion is necessary for a healthy spine. Deconditioned, sporadically worked muscles and joints are more likely to become painful.
  3. Take pre-emptive action. That’s right, acting to keep the back and spine healthy before hand is the best. You may very well have sought treatment for your initial episode of back pain. And you were likely provided with some form of active exercise which was helpful to overcome that episode. Only as you started to feel better you then felt it unnecessary to continue. WRONG. Do you stop brushing your teeth after a cavity is filled? The same can and should be said with respect to back pain. Keeping up with a regular program of active movement/strengthening is a great way to prevent back pain from coming back.
  4. Routine maintenance. You take your car to be serviced several times per year right? You do this to keep the car running smoothly. In fact you take better care of your car than your own back. No wonder it hurts on the regular. EVEN IF your back feels good, it is a wise move to have it looked at on the regular. In this way you can adjust your exercise program to your current needs and ward off future issues.
