Why a sheet of exercises is not as good as directed care for an injury

For some with an injury they may wonder why a sheet of exercises is not good enough. After all they were provided by a doctor…they must know what they are doing.

So much not quite right with that mindset so let’s get to it.

For starters, a pre-printed sheet of exercises provided to all with some body ailment cannot be tailored to that person. A one-size-fits-all approach rarely works…except to frustrate that person who is not getting better. While lots of people have back pain, the path to resolve the problem and to help them function better will be different. These differences are not accounted for on a sheet of paper.

Next, how comprehensive was the physical exam before you received the exercise sheet? In most cases when visiting a physician the exam is 5 minutes at most. That is not an indictment of their knowledge, rather their limited time to perform the best possible exam. And while their diagnosis skills are good, their expertise is not rehabilitation. After all you do not go to your PCP for dental advice, do you? So why would you take rehab advice from someone who does not specialize in that?

A sheet of exercises is not customized to you…and it cannot adapt if you have a problem with one of the exercises. This is why working with a rehab professional for an injury is key. You will greatly benefit from having a professional set of eyes on the problem to quickly adapt on the fly. They will also be able to adjust and dial in your program specific to your needs and goals. It is not just good enough to get rid of the pain. The goal is to restore and where possible improve overall function.

Do not be satisfied with a sheet of exercises that may or may not help. Seek out the necessary rehab professional to be part of your team to get you back in the game (of whatever you want it to be). Do not let pain slow you down or hold you back anymore. If you are ready – click this LINK to request to speak to an expert today.
