Knee Arthritis- So What

  • September 19, 2022

So you have been told you have knee arthritis, so what? If you have enough birthdays, you will have arthritis in some joint or another. Arthritis is just normal aging of the joints. Yet, the common belief is that arthritis is something to be feared. Something that is going to prevent a person from living an active life. People are told arthritis is the worst ever, that they will not be able to do things again, and that surgery is necessary.

WHY?

Because medicine over time has sold disability not health and wellness. It is about time for this to change.

What we know is that arthritis is normal aging. If we live long enough, we will get it. But we also know that there are millions of individuals walking around right now with knee arthritis and are just fine. They have no pain and are not limited in their physical activity in any way whatsoever. So, what this means is that not all individuals with arthritis are destined to the same outcome. Why? There is no one exact answer, BUT an attitude of positivity is important. This, along with taking an active approach to life.

Think of your body, your joints like the engine of a car. If the car just sits there, doing nothing or very little, the car will deteriorate more rapidly. The joints of the body will not be as lubricated which is one item that keeps them healthy. However, by being active the joints in the body have an easier time of staying lubricated and healthy. Now add in cardiovascular exercise and some strengthening and now you have the makings of a more overall healthy body (including joints).

So again…knee arthritis…so what. You can either sit and rust or be active and healthy.

Now yes, a person may be living with pain. Some are more impacted than others by arthritis, but above all, activity provides the best opportunity for healthier joints and a more active life.

This leaves us with one final question – what are you willing to do to keep your joints healthy and your body active? If you are done living with pain due to knee arthritis, they time to act.
