Are you staying on track with your exercise goals this year? Like many you may have made/set exercise goals. Too often though, within 1-2 months many people fall off their plan. They find it hard to keep their time blocked for exercise. Too many will find just about any excuse to not exercise and before they know it they are back into old habits minus exercise. There are steps though that you can take to make sure you stay on track with your exercise goals.
- Make a plan and stick to it. Block your schedule; whether it is early or late does not matter. However, many find it easier to plan exercise early in the day so that your day does not interfere. Now this may mean getting up earlier, but after just a few
weeks it will become a habit. - Find an exercise partner. Having that individual who will exercise with you can greatly increase your chances of success.
- Choose an exercise program or activity that you enjoy. Nothing short-circuits an exercise program faster than trying to participate in something you have little interest in.
- Address any small aches or pains quickly. Do not let a small issue become a bigger one that will derail your exercise plans this year.
- Focus hard on those first 6 weeks. The beginning phase of any exercise program is the most challenging. This is the time when many people will fade away. They will make any excuse possible…don’t have time, body is sore, etc.
But if you can push through the new exercise program soreness and establish that routine, it will become a habit. It will be the “thing” that you look forward to. It will give you an energy boost and you may even feel more sluggish on days you don’t exercise. This is a good thing to keep you highly motivated to exercise. So follow these tips to stay on track with your exercise goals.
