Exercise for Chronic Health Conditions

  • June 16, 2016

It is reported that adults over the age of 65 have a 2 in 3 chance* of being treated for more than 1 chronic health condition. Some of the chronic conditions reported include: hypertension, asthma, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, kidney disease, pulmonary disease, numerous heart issues, dementia, diabetes among many more. Overall, greater than 1 in 4 or 25% of all Americans are receiving treatment for more than 2 chronic health conditions. These numbers are staggers as some of these chronic health conditions can be prevented.

How can some of these issues be prevented or treated???

EXERCISE!!!

Physical Therapists are known to address/treat many conditions related to the human musculoskeletal or neurologic systems. We are also able to work with patients to address other health issues from a preventative standpoint through structured wellness programs and promoting general fitness. Physical therapists are able to perform a full body assessment of strength, flexibility, and motor control to determine how to best create a safe exercise program for you. If anything abnormal is found during the examination, physical therapists are trained to re-direct the patient to the best medical professional to handle that patient’s care if it is not them.

Get your body moving to be proactive in preventing or treating chronic health issues. It is never too late to start a structured exercise program.
