National Physical Therapy Month does not stand for Pain and Torture

  • October 2, 2017

Every profession, cause, and random nonsense seems to have a day, week or month these days, so lets make you painfully (pun intended) aware that October is National Physical Therapy (PT) Month.

PT…that stands for physical torture, physical torment, physical terrorist (I liked that one) or my dad’s favorite…pain and torture Right?.

Why is it that this profession who is supposed to help people is associated with those words? Why do people not know what a PT actually does? Well…that is partly our professions fault. We have done a VERY VERY POOR job of educating the public what we do. Our message is unclear and the profession has little unity.

So for those who have NO idea exactly what a Physical Therapist does, here goes…

Physical Therapists help people who have aches, pains, sprains, strains, loss of mobility, strength or independence. We help people with injuries, after accidents or surgery. PTs help people to regain lost function, mobility, and get back to enjoying life. We work with people following strokes, brain injuries, and spinal cord injuries. Those with MS, Parkinson’s disease, Cerebral Palsy and the list goes on and on.

If a person is slowed down or limited by anything in their daily life, chances are physical therapists can help. We have many tools at our disposal to help our patients or clients…and the best part is we don’t tell you to take pills, send you for expensive tests that do not help to ACTUALLY treat you or advise surgery which data shows is no better than rehab.

PTs use our hands to massage and move the body, restoring lost motion. We prescribe movement and exercise known to improve strength and the health of the body. We educate our clientele about their condition and how to overcome it.

Don’t be fooled by all the latests fads and trends that sound too good to be true, because they probably are.

If you or someone you know is looking for a solution to a problem that they have been waiting and seeing if it would just get better but hasn’t, then NOW is the time to find that ANSWER or SOLUTION. More answers to your questions about what a PT does is but ONE click away….(RIGHT HERE).

There you go..what PTs actually do. And October is our Month
