Back Pain Got You Bent Over

  • August 29, 2022

For some folks with back pain, the feeling of being bent over is a real struggle. Being bent over could mean either leaning off to one side or the inability to stand tall. In these instances, many are unable to find any good position of comfort to relieve the pain. They are constantly in search of something, anything to decrease the pain. This includes medications, injections, massage and more.

For those in this circumstance, some know the instance the pain struck them. Often it involved a lifting/twisting motion or potentially yanking on something heavy. For others the pain appeared when they get up one day. They will search for an answer to when/how/why but just are not quite sure. Typically, the event happened a day or two prior to them waking with the pain it just took some time for the inflammation process to build to the point of causing the pain.

Regardless of how it all began, the important thing to understand is the root cause of the problem needs to be uncovered and addressed. In most cases the inflammatory process will need to be stopped. Routinely this is done via medication (NSAIDs or steroid pack). The next step then is to address the “bent over” posture.

The “bent over” posture is often the body’s way of trying to avoid the inflammation and pain. If/when the posture is initially corrected it may be more painful (which is why they adopt the position in the 1st place). This inability to stand tall needs to be corrected. It is often accomplished by some form of repeated active movement or possibly an adjustment. These interventions/treatments are best determined via a thorough physical examination by a skilled licensed health professional.

After the body is “tall” again and the pain reduces the next step in proactive care can begin. This unfortunately is where too many folks stop care and thus a MAJOR reason for frequent recurrence of back pain. At this point it is VITAL to keep working on strength and muscle coordination and learn preventative strategies. Far too often people will have repeated episodes that ultimately get closer together in time due to not fully working through the process.

Don’t become a back pain recurrence statistic.

Take the steps necessary to be active and no longer bent over.
