Keys to a Healthier YOU

  • July 12, 2021

Every single day people search for keys to be healthier. They scour the internet, crowdsource friends and social media, consuming information all day long. But is it the right information to put them on the best path?

It is important to remember that all information put out there is not correct. Anyone has the ability to post information regardless of truth, so it is wise to carefully evaluate the data. Focusing your search on scientific sources or medical institutions is a good idea. Generally speaking, the medical and science community shares reputable information for consumer consumption.

With all that said – here are some KEYS to be Healthier:

  1. Drink plenty of water. You probably heard 8 glasses per day before. According to the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, the recommendation is 3.7 liters/day for men and 2.7 liters/day for women. The actual amount necessary may be slightly more or less based upon exact size, exercise, etc.
  2. Get plenty of sleep. It is recommended that the average adult get 7-9 hours/night. A restful nights sleep is key to recharge the mind and body.
  3. Exercise. This should not come as any surprise. The goal here is at least 30 min of moderate activity per day. This could be walking, swimming, biking, hiking, anything that gets the heart moving. Plus, you don’t need to do all 30 minutes at once. It is perfectly fine to break the exercise load into smaller pieces if needed based upon a busy schedule or fitness level.
  4. Limit the sweets, caffeine, and alcohol. This does not mean NONE at all. The advice is moderation which is suggested for most types of food.
  5. Eat several colors of fruits and vegetables daily. This way helps make sure you get as much of your necessary nutrients from your food as possible. It is ok to supplement with vitamins, but nothing beats nutrients straight from the source.
  6. Take some YOU time every day. We are all busy but that is no excuse to not take some necessary YOU time. This time is important for your mental health. Your YOU time can be anything you enjoy – reading, exercising, meditating, whatever. Just find at least 20 minutes/day just for YOU.

Following these 6 KEYS can be a great start to a Healthier YOU.
