Top 3 Things To Do if you cannot sleep due to Neck Pain

  • April 29, 2019

Every night tens of thousands of individuals struggle to sleep due to neck pain. Most have tried different positions, spent $100’s of dollars on pillows, medications, etc often without relief. And this leads to the disruption of a restful night’s sleep.

Often people struggle for weeks or months on end, trying everything they can think of, were told by friends/family, or read on the internet. So why is it that so many continue to struggle with sleep due to neck pain? Because the exact cause or solution has yet to be rooted out.

To assist those struggling with sleep due to neck pain, here are 3 possible solutions:

  1. Try a rolled towel in pillow case to support neck. No need to rush out to spend money on all these fancy pillows. Try to fashion your own. This way you can customize how much support you feel you want/need around your neck. Only if you find it helpful should you consider a contoured pillow. Or continue with the make-shift version if it is working for you
  2. Perform neck range of motion before bed or if wake up with pain. Often stiffness (of the neck) can lead to discomfort or pain. By doing simple range of motion exercises, it is possible to ward off the tightness causing pain. Even if movement does not feel great to start, by continuing to move, the stiffness should reduce, and pain or soreness begin to ease
  3. Focus on breathing. This seems so simple yet can be highly effective. Too often as we deal with pain we become tenser and alter our breathing patterns. This serves to further increase muscle tense, aches, and pains. By taking a few minutes to perform slow deep breathing, we can calm our body thus reducing tension and pain.

Hopefully you find 1 more of these suggestions helpful to reduce your neck pain and help you to sleep better. Should you have more question, fill out this quick FORM to get a personal call back.
