New Year- New You (Pt 2- Addressing Aches and Pains)

  • January 14, 2019

An interesting trend happens every year about this time – people are on a mission to address those aches and pains they let linger for weeks or months. Why is that?

Well, from about mid- November through January, people ignore these issues while focusing on the holiday season. And now that the holidays are past, time to get that knee, neck, or back looked at.

The time of avoidance and procrastination is done…Now is the time for action.

Time to Stop:

  • Having sleep disrupted due to pain
  • Taking pain medication daily
  • Dreading daily household activities due to pain
  • Feeling bad about not being able to (__________________) because of pain
  • Feeling frustrated and lost, not knowing how to solve the problem

Each person has their own list of things they want to stop doing/avoiding due to aches or pains. The question becomes, what is that breaking or tipping point? What is the limit that one is willing for forgo (an event, activity, etc) before they are ready to address it?

For many, it is when it impacts their ability to care for others or take care of daily activities. But is should never come to this point. Taking care of oneself should be of primary importance. Because if you are not physically fit enough, then all those things and people you want to take care of/depend upon you. Above all, you must make sure you are in the best shape possible so that you can handle all daily life and others will throw at it.

It is Time To:

  • Get better sleep so your body can heal
  • Stop taking pain medication that only masks the pain temporarily
  • Learn the answer/solution to those aches/pains
  • Get back to doing everything/helping everyone without the limitation of aches/pains
