  • August 14, 2023

No one enjoys back pain, especially when it is chronic back pain. What exactly constitutes “chronic” back pain? The typical definition of chronic is anything over 6 weeks. This is often the time when people begin to seek care for their troubles. Many wait 6 weeks or even longer before seeking care assuming that it will go away in time. But when it does not, people begin to seek solutions. What starts as a nuisance becomes an impedance with day-to-day activities.

Not only are people tired of attempting to mask the pain with medication. But they are also frustrated missing out on activities and avoiding tasks due to pain. Plus, not being able to be active on your terms tends to have a psychological impact. All of this leads to the question of why wait?

Why wait to seek care at all?

Back pain is common…on the order of 80% will experience it. And for a good percentage the pain will go away within 2 weeks or so. But when it does not, the time to wait is over. Waiting to treat back pain longer than 3-4 weeks is what leads people down the path to chronic back pain lasting 6 weeks or even months.

When that inevitable back pain appears it will be wise to seek care inside of a few days. Numerous published articles on back pain all conclude that treatment inside 30 days or better yet 14 days results in better and faster recovery. We also know that the longer pain persists, the longer it lasts and more troublesome it becomes to get rid of.
