Just because it’s cold out doesn’t mean no exercise. Now is not the time to waste all those exercise gains you have made over the prior months. Time to layer up or hit the gym. Whether you are a gym goer or not there are always options for exercise.

Yes, it may be cold out and there may be less daylight. Time to adapt and push through. If possible, try to adjust your schedule for a mid-day walk or run. At least then you can maximize the warmth of the day. If you are unable then consider purchasing running lights and reflective clothing for safety. Yes, it may be cold out, but if you dress properly you body will warm with activity.

An alternative is to hit the gym. There the temperature is moderated, and it is always bright. At the gym you will have plenty of options from cardio to resistance equipment. The downside may be crowded times but for those who are not cold lovers it is a viable option.

For those who refuse the gym and avoid the cold, your options shrink…unless you have already created an at-home gym. For those minus a gym you will need to be creative. Time to use what you have at home and do the best you can. Here are some options to consider: walk up/down your stairs – maybe even with a backpack on for added weight; push-ups (floor or counter); stand up/sit down from chair- possibly holding some weight in your hands. Other options may include lunges or curls with household objects or light weights. Regardless of what you have, creativity is the name of the game.
