Scan any article on a nutrition topic and you will read all about the “latest and greatest”, the “benefit or harm” of pick your food item or supplement. Somewhere in the writing there is usually some truth, but the message may become distorted as study, author, etc pushes their belief or finding. The important thing to understand is our body needs good nutrition.
Good nutrition does not mean we must strictly follow this diet or that. It does not mean we cannot ever eat sweets, salty foods, or fatty foods. Eating a reasonably balanced diet (one with fruits, veggies, protein, etc) will make sure the body has the necessary building blocks.
These building blocks – proteins, vitamins, minerals, etc – all found in the food we eat – are important pieces in the healing process. Our body uses these nutrients help us recover from illness or injury. The entire process can be broken down rather technically and specific to each system. But in short our muscles, ligaments, tendons and vital organs use these building block components to continually rebuild and strength that body system.
To keep our body functioning at the highest level possible, we need to make sure to properly fuel it. For those with more specific nutrition or dietary related concerns, consider consulting with a registered dietician or nutritionist to help you make healthy choices with your food.
