Regain your Balance

  • February 10, 2025

Are you looking to regain your balance? Or maybe you are looking to maintain and not lose it. If either of these conditions are true, then there is work to be done.

Balance is a use it or lose it thing. Watch any little kid at the park or walking in a parking lot. Notice how they are constantly standing on 1 foot, hopping, skipping, or trying to walk a narrow line. Their constant challenge to their balance system is why they are better at balance than adults. Well, that plus kids are lower to the ground and they bounce.

Ok, so how do you regain your balance?

It requires a good deal of “balance” work and being uncomfortable. Uncomfortable as in not feeling as steady as you would like. You will need to be put in situations that make you feel unsteady repeatedly in order to make the changes you are seeking. You likely may feel you are going to lose your balance. Many people do not like this feeling, but it is necessary.

This process will not be fast. Time and repeated practice…a lot of practice…is necessary to make the changes. It will likely be one that you will need to continue long-term if you want the benefits to be maintained.

You said it may feel like I am about to fall (with the training)?

Yes, you may feel like it, but the goal is to not fall. This is where working with a professional is helpful, especially early in the process. This person will not only develop the program for you, but also make sure that you are safe. No healthcare professional is going to let you hit the floor. It is more paperwork for us. So we work to keep people safe and on their feet…while working to helping the individual to improve their overall balance.
