Every day millions of people suffer from rotator cuff (RTC) issues. As such, a large number of them will search for ways to overcome those RTC issues. So to help them out, what follows are 4 ways to overcome rotator cuff issues.
- Avoid sleeping on the painful shoulder. Painful shoulders do not like to be slept on. The compression that happens from sleeping on a sore shoulder often wakes folks. Plus the compression that happens also reduces bloodflow to themuscle which could be using sleep to aide recovery. So try sleeping on your back or on the opposite shoulder. Also try placing a pillow between your ribcage and arm to further open up the space in the shoulder for bloodflow.
- Limit the number of times performing a “painful” movement. This does not mean avoid using the arm altogether. It is generally not helpful to NOT move at all. Lack of movement tends to create more stiffness, which can lead to pain. So, the tip here is to regularly move the arm even if it hurts. But…move within a tolerable range at least several times per day.
- Do not live on pain medication. Yes, the medication may reduce the pain, but NSAIDs taken over a long period of time has the potential to impair healing muscle tissue. Science is becoming more aware of this problem and at least some in the medical community are spreading the word. If the pain is that severe that you feel the need to take pain medication, then you should also be following tip #4.
- See medical guidance. It is helpful to have a healthcare professional provide proper guidance to treat shoulder pain (or any pain for that matter). This professional can evaluate, diagnose, and treat the source of pain. By actively treating the issue at hand, you are more likely to resolve the issue more quickly. After all, who really wants to deal with a rotator cuff issue for months on end?
