Small issues or BIG problems

  • January 13, 2025

On the regular people will experience small issues with their muscles or joints. For some the issues remain small, while for others they become big problems. Some live with minor aches that do not impact daily life, while others suffer greatly. Many become unable to participate in the activities they enjoy. What accounts for difference of small issues or big problems?

Pain is a rather individualized experience so there is not only one answer. There are however a few reasons a person may “suffer” more than the next…even if the issue began as a small one.

To begin with is past experience. If a person has previously had an issue with a specific muscle or joint, it may become more sensitive. This means subsequent issues may seem more severe. Another factor can be cultural expression of pain. There are some who learn to be expressive and thus tend to be feel the problem is bigger compared to the person who learned to suck it up and rub some dirt on it. One more factor is daily life stressors. The more a person is feeling stress with work, family, etc, the more likely they are to experience their issue as more significant.

Regardless of these factors and more because there are always more factors, there are things that can help solve the concern. The biggest factor is when a person chooses to address their problem. Do they seek help when the ache or pain is new and just a small issue…One that is less impactful on their daily life. Or are they the person who waits until the small issue becomes a big problem.

Generally speaking, those who address small issues quickly are more likely to recover quickly and not develop big problems. However, those who wait until those big muscle and joint problems appear will likely suffer longer than necessary.

So the question is why wait? Why wait to address any muscle or joint problem? Sure it MAY go away on its own…but if it does not…what can/will result. The answer is likely longer-term pain and impact on daily function. Again, there is no reason to wait.
