Start The Year Off Right

  • January 6, 2025

As we begin a new year, many folks “plan” to start the year off right. They plan to eat better, exercise more, read vs watch tv, etc. Many have a plan, but far fewer succeed. Why is that?

There are many reasons that a person may not achieve their intended goal. However, there are a few key things people can do to improve their chances of success.

  1. Write down your goals. Then place them where you look often. This will serve as a regular reminder.
  2. If the goal is “large”, then break it down into smaller pieces that seem/feel more manageable. An example of this is the person who wants to lose say 20lbs for the year. Select a goal of say 5lbs every 3 months. This way the outcome relative to the timeline does not seem as great. This can also help you check off small goals along the way and keep your motivation higher.
  3. Find an accountability partner. This person can help make sure you stay on track with your exercise, diet, or other goals you have set out.
  4. Give yourself grace but keep on moving forward. By that I mean it is ok if you have a few days where you lose focus. It is bound to happen for one reason or another. Be prepared to persevere and push toward that goal you wish to achieve.
  5. Focus hard on these first 6 weeks. It takes time to build new habits. But once you get into a good routine, it will be that much easier to keep going.

No one ever said change is, was or would be easy. But if you want to make changes this year then start your preparation now…and then begin your journey. Find out what happens when you start the year off right.
