Are you looking be healthier but have knee pain keeping you from exercise? This is an all-too-common issue, but one that can be fixed. And fixed without resorting to medications, injections, or surgery. All the better, right?
You are probably asking, “how is that possible”? Well…it comes down to addressing the root cause of the problem…not just putting a band-aide over it. So what are the steps to make this happen?
Well for starters, discovering the root cause. This does not mean you need to rush for x-rays or an MRI. Unless there is a fracture or surgery is truly necessary, the imaging will not be that helpful. In fact, you will likely be told normal aging of the joint is bad and surgery will be necessary. How is this helpful? I can hear you asking, “but don’t we need to know what is wrong”? My response to that is does it matter what IT is or whether IT can be changed? In a large percent of cases what a joint looks like does not correlate with what a person is complaining about.
A better idea is to have a physical assessment that includes strength, motion, balance, and endurance. By examining these 4 elements (and more), the cause of knee pain and a solution for it can be discovered. After that, it will be about addressing those elements. Believe it or not, improving range of motion and strength go a long way toward reducing pain. Then pair those elements with learning more about the problem to reduce the worry factor is huge. Eliminating or at least reducing the stress and anxiety with returning to exercise can dramatically reduce pain experienced.
Not at all what you expected is it?
That is because the medical system has convinced people that interventions “fix” problems. But rarely is the problem actually “fixed” rather just covered up. But the time for that has ended. Now you know that addressing the root cause will be the fastest and most sustainable solution.
